Home Safety in Uncertain Times

10 Tips for Safer Living

The COVID-19 pandemic has given everyone pause and compelled us to re-examine personal safety as we interact with others in public places.  It’s also proven to be a strong reminder to take a closer look at personal safety inside our own homes to help keep our families and loved ones healthy.

Here’s a list of 10 things you can do TODAY for a safer tomorrow:

1.When entering your home, take off your shoes and wash your hands for 20 seconds with warm water and soap.

2.Change clothing if you were caught up in a group and unable to keep the recommended 6-foot social distance.

3.Regularly wipe down often-touched surfaces such as doorknobs, countertops, light switches and faucets with cleaning solution.

4.Wipe down laptops, phones, tv remotes, appliances and other electronics frequently touched and shared by household members.

5.Cough and sneeze into your arm or a tissue to help prevent the spread of germs.

6.Keep your hands away from your face, nose, eyes and mouth.

7.Change bedding regularly and wash towels and blankets more often.

8.Use paper towels to dry hands.  Do not share hand towels.

9.If someone in your home is sick, avoid close contact.  If possible, quarantine them to a designated room and separate bathroom. Have them wear a mask if they need to enter common areas of the home.

10.Install hands-free lighting options such as motion sensors so lights turn ON and OFF automatically without the need to touch a switch. Also consider voice activated lighting control or remote lighting control via App-enabled smart switches and dimmers.
