Safely Protect Your Home’s Holiday Lighting Displays

Safely Protect Your Home’s Holiday Lighting Displays - Leviton Blog

With the holiday season already in full swing we wanted to make sure your outdoor holiday lighting displays are safely secured from the harsh elements. The National Electrical Code® requires that all outdoor outlets in homes must be both Weather-Resistant and Tamper Resistant as well as as GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) protected. That makes our Weather & Tamper-Resistant GFCIs the perfect choice to use with your holiday lighting displays. Not only do they cover the NEC requirements but they are available in our SmartlockPro® slim line which makes them faster and easier to install in any wallbox because of the slim design. In addition to the GFCI protected receptacle requirement, the National Electric Code also requires that all outdoor receptacles in wet or damp locations must have weatherproof covers.

Now if you have an older home, there’s a good chance that you don’t have GFCI outlets installed outdoors. Not to worry, Leviton offers portable GFCI devices available in cord set versions or user-attachable plugs. Our Portable GFCI Devices can be plugged into existing outlets thus making it now GFCI protected! These devices can also turn any extension cord into a GFCI protected extension cord. Our portable GFCI cord sets are available in multiple cord lengths ranging from 2 feet to 25 feet which can accommodate even the most elaborate holiday lighting displays.
