Keeping it Simple with Staycations

We all need a little down time but sometimes it’s just not possible to plan a trip and you really don’t want to lose your hard earned vacation days. What to do? A staycation is the perfect solution!  And again, what to do? We have some great ideas for the whole family.

Try something new. We all say we would love to try a new hobby or activity but just don’t have the time. Well, your staycation is the perfect opportunity to plan a day hiking, horseback riding, fishing, boating, golfing, playing tennis, skydiving, etc… Try it and you may have a new hobby for life.

Explore your local region. Who says you need to go far away to experience something exciting and new. Your local regional and state tourist bureaus have tons of information on what to see and do right in your own backyard. You may have to drive a bit but you’ll find plenty of historical landmarks, museums, state parks, events, zoos, aquariums and local gems that make for a perfect day trip.

Enjoy a great meal. Start with a great breakfast of pancakes, omelets, fresh fruit, and a relaxing cup of coffee or tea. You have the time to make it and to enjoy it al fresco on your patio, deck, porch, or backyard. Cooking once a day enough?  Try the restaurant you always wanted to go to but never had the time. You know, the one with the live entertainment or karaoke. Splurge on a sitter for the kids.

Take in a show. Local theatre, concerts, dance troops and symphonies can be very affordable and provide top quality entertainment. And, particularly in the summer, there are always lots of free shows and even carnivals and fairs for a great day or night out.

And if it rains one day realize your dream of binge watching your favorite show or finally reading the new novel you’ve been hearing all about.

Staycations give new meaning to the phrase “There’s no place like home”!
