Industry Standards Report

IEEE

IEEE P802.3cu
100 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s over Single-Mode Fiber at 100 Gb/s per Wavelength. Draft 2.0 was circulated following the January 2020 meeting, with comments to be reviewed during a series of teleconference calls in March and April 2020. The target publication date is December 2020. This standard supports 100 Gb/s (single wavelength) or 400 Gb/s (4 wavelength) operations over single mode optical fiber for distances up to 10 kilometers. 

IEEE P802.11ax
High Efficiency WLAN (Wi-Fi 6). Comment resolution for Draft 6.0 will continue during a series of teleconference calls in March and April 2020. The target publication date is November 2020. This standard supports wireless Ethernet operations in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, with a maximum data rate of 10 Gb/s.

TR-42.7 – Telecommunications Copper Cabling Systems

TIA-568.5 (single-pair components) progressed to a second committee ballot for review at the June 2020 meeting. 

ANSI/TIA-568.2-D-2 (power delivery) progressed to a second Industry ballot for review at the June 2020 meeting.

A project has been approved for TIA-568.6 Single Pair Multi-Drop (SPMD) cabling and components. 

A Task Group has been created to develop requirements for Single-Pair Ethernet cable testing.

TR-42.1 – Commercial Telecommunications Cabling 

ANSI/TIA-568.0-E (generic) and ANSI/TIA-568.1-E (commercial) have published. 

A first Industry ballot for ANSI/TIA-4966-A (Education) closed in March 2020 for review at the June 2020 meeting. 

A third committee ballot was circulated for TSB-162-B (cabling for WAPs) for review at the June 2020 meeting.  This document is expected to publish in late 2020. 

TR-42.11 – Optical Fiber Systems

  • TSB-5069 (optical fiber channel polarity) has published. 
  • A first committee ballot for ANSI/TIA-568.3-E (optical fiber components) has circulated, for review in June 2020.
  • A project has been approved for ANSI/TIA-PN526.14-D (Power Loss Measurement, MM cable), but a first ballot will not occur until after the June 2020 meeting to allow time to coordinate with IEC.
